Last Saturday, DSPrez, Buford and I met for a ride led by DSPrez. It was a gorgeous day, a little on the toasty side (86-ish F). We met at Martin Motor Sports in Boyertown, PA (that's Pennsylvania for some of you on the other side of the Earth), about 30 miles from home for me and a bit further for Buford, drooled over the Triumphs in the showroom for a while and took off around 11:30am. Buford nabbed a cookie on the way out; wish I had.

From Martin's to 1st stop, it was about 1.5 hours; I've edited the video down to 51 minutes, taking out the gas station stop and speeding through "civilization" near the beginning. I had to tweak compression and video size to get it small but decent enough quality to upload; I don't recommend watching full-screen, although encoded size, 640 X 360, looks pretty good. It's ridiculously pastoral, practically a green-out.

The camera was a cheap SJ1000, purchased for $80 on eBay and shipped directly from Hong Kong, mounted on the left side of my bars with a home-made mount Link So, if it looks like I'm not looking where I should, it's because the camera is fixed on the bar, not on my helmet (where I'm looking where I should). You can spot a tiny corner of my deflector in the bottom right corner. Also, it's a fairly wide-angle lens so things are closer than they appear.

The "real" ride starts around 12:08 minutes in at Route 143 (an awesome road) in case you get impatient but you'll miss the warp-speed rocket-fueled speed-up at 6:26 if you skip ahead. In a certain state of mind with your nose right up to the screen, wow. The ride starts in Boyertown, runs over Hawk Mountain, past the sanctuary (for hawks?) down the other side and eventually we land at Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy in Tamaqua, PA, despite the attempted discouragement by a blue minivan that just wouldn't go somewhere else. Heisler's is an awesome remnant of a 1960's-era country ice cream farm thing, complete with full-size totem pole, gift shop and double mini golf. The food was tiny, the people large.

Allen,

Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed reliving the memories. The video seems long when your not actually experiencing the ride. I enjoy riding Route 143 It is my go to route since I can access it close to my home, and the scenery is wonderful especially in the fall. Too bad the video did not include our tour through Heisler's gift shop.

Allen & John, thanks again for your company on the ride.

Having been born and raised in PA I may be biased but some of the best country riding can be found there....in between snow storms Thanks for posting, makes me miss home.

We thought you were coming along that day. Did we misunderstand or did something happen that you couldn't make it?
